It’s wet and cold outside, while the heaters are thundering in offices and shops. The colleagues have been sniffing and coughing happily for days and the constantly tense neck, the pressure on the ears and the slight scratching in the throat unfortunately undeniably indicate that it could soon be your turn to deal with the unloved cold . But what can you do to prevent this from happening? There are numerous tips and tricks, we have compiled the five best from our point of view for you today.
1) WASH YOUR HANDS REGULARLY
Recommendation number one is regular hand washing! Because nasty viruses and similar pathogens most often find their way into our mucous membranes through our hands. If you clean your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water on a regular basis, you will get rid of most pathogens in time. If you then try to avoid unnecessary handshakes and avoid direct contact with handrails, doorknobs, shopping trolleys, etc., you further increase your chances of being free from colds.
2) VENTILATE PROPERLY
Not only when contact with “virus spreaders” is unavoidable, you should ventilate regularly. Rule of thumb for winter: Open the window for at least 5 minutes an hour, and do it all the way!
3) DRINK ENOUGH
There are many drinking recommendations, scholars have been arguing for years. The fact is that only a body supplied with sufficient fluids can function optimally and can also perform at its best in the fight against pathogens. For those who find coffee and water too boring in the long run, we have a large selection of teas on offer . Especially cozy in winter too!
4) EXERCISE IN THE FRESH AIR
Anyone who already has a fever belongs in bed or at least on the sofa. Everyone else should make sure they get enough exercise in the fresh air, especially in winter! It is twice as effective when the sun is shining outside, because it also activates the body’s own vitamin D production, which also contributes to the normal function of the immune system. If you do not succeed in doing this regularly, for example because of your job, you should consider supplementing your diet with vitamin D , especially in winter .
5) STAY HEALTHY THROUGH THE WINTER WITH A BALANCED DIET
A balanced diet is not only important during the cold season. A number of vitamins (e.g. C) and minerals (such as zinc), which the body needs to maintain the normal function of its defenses, can be found in salads and vegetables as well as in fruit, but also in fish and meat, cereals & Co., can however also be substituted if necessary .
Traditionally, ginger , ribwort and elderberry are also popular with our customers to combat the threat of colds .
In winter we also swear by our large selection of soups , above all of course our chicken bouillon . It is not only delicious when spooned, but also serves as an excellent basis for other heart-warming dishes such as a hearty stew, a velvety gratin or a thick risotto.
